Hothouse Flower and The Nine Plants of Desire by Margot Berwin - Sexy, delightful adventure

Legend has it that there are nine exotic tropical plants that can give a person everything they desire. But these plants are hard to find, and must be all in one collection for their magic to work. A seeker of these plants has to consider whether the journey to find these mysterious foliage will be worth the reflections into oneself that must be undertaken as well.

Margot Berwin’s debut novel, “Hothouse Flower and The Nine Plants of Desire,” tells the story of these legendary plants and how they turn the life of one city gal upside down and back again.

Lila Grace Nova is something of a train wreck. Newly divorced and not too crazy about her career, she is struggling to make sense of the new direction her world has taken. Her New York City apartment is new and clean, but lacks the spark of passion that Lila needs to start her life again. When David Exley, the sexy and persuasive plant salesman from the market across the street, insists that a bird-of-paradise plant will make all the difference, Lila reluctantly agrees to give it a try. Suddenly she sees plants with a whole new outlook.

After a disastrous photo shoot and when she thinks her life can get no worse, late one night Lila stumbles across an odd Laundromat where moss covered the floors and tropical plants filled every space imaginable. The owner Armand introduces Lila to his unique and soothing world of greenery where one tiny rare plant can bring hundreds of dollars, where flowers can heal, and where nine magical plants can bring fame, fortune, and love.

Armand, challenges Lila to try and make a cutting from a fire fern grow roots If she succeeds, he will show her the secret of his beloved plants. But Lila, in a burst of greed and bad judgment sets into play a series of events that not only destroys her chance to learn the secrets of the plants, but destroys Armand’s world as well. The only way to repay her foolishness is to travel deep into the rainforests of Mexico to find replacement plants – a journey that is sure to change Lila’s life for good…or bad.

Part love story, part thriller, Margot Berwin’s novel delivers a delightful and downright sexy adventure that will enthrall and charm readers. “Hothouse Flower and The Nine Plants of Desire” created quite a stir in the literary world when Julia Robert bought the film rights to the story. Can’t wait to see how this novel into a movie!

Sounds like a book I'd read. I love exotic plants and a good story. Nice review and music.

Thanks for that review. The cover of the book will certainly get it noticed. It seemed to me to be almost a modern version of those 'wise women' books whereby people are cured of all their ills by the power of plants - or am I totally off the mark there?

I don't have much of a green thumb, but this sounds very interesting. Thank you for the review!

Petty,
Sort of, kinda, not really. There is a wise woman and she most definitely does some healing things with the plants, but it's not the focus of the book.

Thank you Book Bird Dog and Janel for coming by!
