For the ultimate in “fairy” or “faerie” tales, fans of romance have to look no further than the work of author Melissa Mayhue. Her enchanting “Daughters of the Glen” series pairs up the mystical magical world of the Fae with the modern world, resulting in exciting, lusty adventures that will have readers enthralled and begging for more.
Mayhue’s latest book, “A Highlander’s Destiny,” is the fifth book in the series and is the story of Jesse Coryell, half Mortal-half Fae and a newly trained Guardian of the Faerie World. Coming back to work at his family’s security firm, he is intrigued by a letter sent by a young woman searching for her lost sister. There is something about the urgency of the plea that grabs Jesse’s heart, urging him to contact her. Jesse doesn’t realize he is about to enter into a struggle of a lifetime, both for his heart, and his future.
Destiny Noble is frantically searching for her teenaged sister, Leah, who seems to have disappeared into thin air. Gifted with an ability to see into people’s futures, Destiny is told in a dream find the handsome man dressed in black, and that he would lead her to her sister. When Jesse Coryell shows up on his motorcycle, handsome and all in black, Destiny feels the tingle that tells her this is the man she can depend on.
As Jesse and Destiny race against time to save Destiny’s sister from a powerful ancient evil, they find a strong pull of attraction to each other. As Destiny learns more about her Fae ancestory and heritage and how Jesse plays into her life, the clock is ticking away their last hopes of finding Leah.
Can their combined magic and intelligence be enough to fight the forces against them, and will their newly found love stand the test?
“A Highlander’s Destiny” is an unusual romance in that it has the intrigue of a mystery, the thrills of an adventure, and the sensual lust of a romance. (And oh my, is it sensual. The love scenes are very...ehm....mature!) Although a part of a series, with a complicated cast of characters, this story stands well enough on its own. But if you’re like me, you want to go and read the previous novels to learn about the rest of the magical clan.
This book was released in December 2009, and Mayhue’s next book in the Daughters of the Glen series, “A Highlander’s Homecoming,” is set to be released at the end of January, so readers will be happily ensconced in the Scottish glens for the rest of the winter! I can’t think of anything better!
Other Titles in the series:
