The Mayo Clinic Diet - Eat Well, Enjoy Life, Lose Weight!

It’s a New Year, and if you are like me, a new time to start a diet. I’m always looking for the easy way to shed a few pounds, so when I read about the new “Mayo Clinic Diet,” I thought it couldn’t hurt to check it out. Any help is good help!

Compiled by doctors and nutritionists from the world-renown Mayo Clinic, “The Mayo Clinic Diet” might well be the only diet book you will ever need. Written in easy to understand, easy to follow language, this bright, colorful book breaks down the dieting game into two sections – “Lose It” and “Live It.” Simple enough!

The “Lose It” section is a two week, quick start program that is designed to help a person lose six to ten pounds right off the bat, in a safe and healthy way. The book advises to lose five bad habits, gain five good habits and add on an extra five bonus habits, and the dieting game is a done deal.

The five habits they advise gaining are eat a healthy breakfast, eat fruits and vegetables, eat whole grains, eat healthy fats, and move.

The five habits to lose include stop eating in front of the TV, no sugar, no snacking, moderate meat and low-fat diary, and no eating out.

Then the five bonus habits the Mayo Clinic urges dieters to adopt take a little more work. They include keeping a food journal, keeping an activity record, move and exercise more, eat more fresh foods, and make daily goals to stay motivated. Not hard things to do, but it does take commitment.

The “Live It” section of “The Mayo Clinic Diet,” details the long term plans for staying healthy, and how to continue to lose 1 to 2 pounds a week until a healthy goal is reached. Meal planners and tips for maintaining healthy goals are included, as well as great recipes for delicious, but healthy meals,

This is a extremely well thought-out book, filled with colorful photos and easy to follow advice that make it appealing and encouraging for those of us who need to get healthy this year. An accompanying journal is also available to use in conjunction with the book, and is quck and easy to learn to use. Proceeds from the book have been designated to support medical education and research for the Mayo Clinic.

Thank you to FSB Associates for the review copy of "The Mayo Clinic Diet."

(A note about the music - I always try to find a song that goes along with the theme of the book I'm reviewing. Today, I couldn't find any weight-loss songs, but I love "The Weight" by The Band, so here ya go! Also Matt Nathanson's "Weight of It All" was just pretty! And you can never have too much Levon Helm in your life, so "The Night They Drove Ol' Dixie Down" for your listening pleasure!)
