A Dog Named Slugger by Leigh Brill

Today, in my Dogs and Cats Week, I'm so proud to introduce you to a wonderful book - "A Dog Named Slugger" by Leigh Brill.   This book will touch your heart!

Born with congential cerebral palsy, Leigh Brill had to put up with a lot during her young life – the taunting of classmates in school, the stares from people who should have known better, and the lack of understanding of her disability from others. One doctor actually had the nerve to tell her that because she was so pretty that she wouldn’t have any trouble finding a man to take care of her.

Fiercely independent and determine to make her way on her own, Leigh did the best she could. But there came a time when she finally realized that she needed a bit of help, and that help came in the form of a beautiful golden Labrador named Slugger, a dog who had been trained as a service dog to help the disabled.

Leigh and Slugger hit it off immediately. Through careful training sessions with the dog’s trainer, Leigh and Slugger soon learned to work together as a team, making life so much easier for Leigh.

In her book, “A Dog Named Slugger: The True Story of the Service Dog That Changed My Life,” Leigh describes the joyful triumphs and the loving and playful companionship that she found with her service dog. But while this is the story about Slugger, it is also the story of Leigh and her bravery and persistence at wanting to maintain her independence and dignity, and how Slugger played an important role in achieving those goals.

Filled with lighthearted moments and heartbreaking sadness, “A Dog Named Slugger” will touch the readers’ hearts and make a lasting impression of this admirable woman and her canine partner
