About The Book:
Welcome to Spindle Cove, where the ladies with delicate constitutions come for the sea air, and men in their prime are . . . nowhere to be found.
Or are they?
Spindle Cove is the destination of choice for certain types of well-bred young ladies: the painfully shy, young wives disenchanted with matrimony, and young girls too enchanted with the wrong men; it is a haven for those who live there.
Victor Bramwell, the new Earl of Rycliff, knows he doesn’t belong here. So far as he can tell, there’s nothing in this place but spinsters . . . and sheep. But he has no choice, he has orders to gather a militia. It’s a simple mission, made complicated by the spirited, exquisite Susanna Finch—a woman who is determined to save her personal utopia from the invasion of Bram’s makeshift army.
Susanna has no use for aggravating men; Bram has sworn off interfering women. The scene is set for an epic battle…but who can be named the winner when both have so much to lose?
I know that I have said this about each book this week, but I absolutely enjoyed this book!!!
Tessa Dare has created a wonderful little village of Spindle Cove, an idyllic place where young ladies who are, let's say - a handful, can go to be themselves and learn the social skills they need to be "proper" young ladies in society. Her heroine, Susanna Finch, is a spunky gal with a mind of her own, and I loved how independent and intelligent she is portrayed. Tessa's hero, Victor Bramwell, is handsome, brave, and stubborn - all great qualities in a man who needs a good woman by his side. And the story of how these two strong-minded people handle the sparks that fly between them is lively and thoroughly entertaining.
I loved how Tessa had the character of Susanna be a healer who worked with various herbs and home-remedies to help the people of the village. She includes a lot of great history behind some of the archaic medical practices of the Regency-era, and how both Susanna and Bram had both suffered from bad experiences, but were willing to try new things if it would help.
"A Night To Surrender" is the first in Tessa's "Spindle Cove" books, and I can't wait for the next installment, "A Week To Be Wicked," which will feature two of the secondary characters from this first book. If the sneak peek preview is any indication, this second book promises to be a winner as well! Watch for it in March, 2012!
