Book Beginnings on Friday - The House on Butterfly Way by Elizabeth Bevarly

My book friend Mary has been doing this weekly meme for a while now, and I thought I would join in this week.

Book Beginnings on Friday is a meme sponsored by Rose City Reader (http://www.rosecityreader.com/) where readers share the beginning words of the book they are currently reading!

The book I'm currently reading is "The House on Butterfly Way" by Elizabeth Bevarly, and here is how it begins ....

"Eugenie Dashner had always loved the house on Butterfly Way. When she was a little girl, her friend Marianne Weatherly lived one street over from it, and whenever they rode their bikes around the neighborhood of Manitou Hills, they inevitably peddaled past. As a child, she thought the house looked like a wedding cake. A giant three-tiered wedding cake dappled with buttercream frills and meringue lace, its pale pink front door a frosting rose at its base. The child Eugenie had been certain that gypsies lived in the house, because bright fringed curtains framed the front windows, and she once heard accordian music coming from inside. She was sure that fairies frolicked in the baskets of fuchsia dripping along the front porch, that sprites splashed in the sparkling side yard fountain, and that pixies pranced in the purple clematis twining through the gazebo nearby."

I am so enjoying this book.  Elizabeth Bevarly captures the childlike wonder of this great house that Eugenie Dashner still maintains as an adult.  Watch for my review of this book coming soon!

Hi Sharon,

It is good to have another new face join in Book Beginnings, nice to 'meet' you.

Those first lines were so allluring, I do so love descriptive writing.

Unfortunately, they just weren't enough and I needed to know the story behind the words. I am so glad that I cheated and checked out the synopsis, as I have now already added it to my readng list.

What a wonderful find and I can't wait for your review.

Thanks for sharing and have a good weekend,

Yvonne
