One dress. Four women. An amazing destiny.
Charlotte Malone is getting married. Yet all is not settled in the heart of Birmingham's chic bridal boutique owner. Charlotte can dress any bride to perfection-except herself. When she discovers a vintage mint-condition wedding gown in a battered old trunk, Charlotte embarks on a passionate journey to discover the women who wore the gown before her.
Emily in 1912. Mary in 1939. And Hillary in 1968. Each woman teaches Charlotte something about love in her own unique way. Woven within the threads of the beautiful hundred-year-old gown is the truth about Charlotte's heritage, the power of faith, and the beauty of finding true love.
I really enjoyed "The Wedding Dress" for several reasons.
1. It was set in one of my favorite cities in the world, Birmingham, Alabama, and it was great fun to "revisit" all my favorite places in the "Magic City," including Red Mountain, Irondale, and Homewood. Rachel captures the flavor and the specialness of this big Southern city just perfectly!
2. I love the sense of history that is prevalent in this story as the wedding dress is passed from generation to generation, and I loved the coming together of all the women who were affected by the dress's special properties.
3. I love the little sense of magic that Rachel includes in this story - the little man in purple who guides the dress along its way, and the way the dress is so suited to each lady in the tale.
4. I love the sense of inspiration that is included here, the strong faith that is shown by the characters and the gentle way it was presented. Very well done!
Rachel Hauck has greated a beautiful story here that was just an absolute joy to read. I highly recommend it!
She lives in sunny, though sometimes hurricane plagued, central Florida with her husband and their ornery pets.
