Book Review - Reap What You Sew: A Southern Sewing Circle Mystery by Elizabeth Lynn Casey

I am very fond of cozy mysteries, and I'm proud to say that many of the cozy mystery authors who I admire and read have also become friends. One of these talented writers is the sweet Elizabeth Lynn Casey.

I first read Elizabeth's debut book in her Southern Sewing mystery series, Sew Deadly, in 2009 and I've been a fan of her work ever since. These books, set in Sweet Briar, South Carolina, are lively, fun and just an absolute pleasure to read.

Her new book, "Reap What You Sew," the fifth book in the series, is no exception to the rule.

About the Book:

Sweet Briar is chosen for the setting of a new movie, and everyone is hoping to be cast as an extra—and lucky Tori Sinclair lands the gig. But fame has its price, as the town learns when the film’s leading actress is found murdered. When suspicion falls on a member of the sewing circle, Tori must catch the killer to keep the tight-knit group from coming apart at the seams.

Elizabeth captures the intrigue, lingo and the chaotic atmosphere of an on-location movie set perfectly in this installment of her Southern Sewing Circle mysteries. As Tori Sinclair and her friends watch both from afar and in the midst of the action, they are drawn into the drama of not only the movie making process but also the solving of the murder of a big-name actress as well.

In a charming side-story, Elizabeth has her twin sister characters of Mary-Louise and Leona struggling with the arrival of their mother, Annabelle, who is suffering from a bit of dementia and a lot of sticky-fingerness. The tale is handled with great emotion and gentleness and just adds a deeper dimension to these two beloved characters. Well done!!

Elizabeth includes sewing tips and a pattern for a delighful rag quilt along with her story.

I can't wait to see what fun she has in store next for the ladies of Sweet Briar! If you like southern fiction, stories of light mystery and fun, then Elizabeth Lynn Casey's Southern Sewing Circle Mysteries are just perfect for a lovely reading experience.
