Book Blog Tour Stop - The Gifted by Ann H. Gabhart

About The Book:

Jessamine Brady has been in the Shaker Village for half her young life, but in spite of how she loves her sisters there, she struggles to conform to the strict rules. Instead she entertains dreams of the world outside. When Tristan Cooper seems to step out of those dreams to entice her into the forbidden realm beyond the Shaker Village, her life turns upside down.

Will Jessamine be able to survive the storms of the world? Or will she retreat back to the peace of Harmony Hill?

a typical Shaker village

"The Gifted" is the fifth book in Ann H. Gabhart's series about the Shakers, a communal religious group who were well known for their simple ways of life and their enthusiastic worship practices. With this story Gabhart really gives readers a close insight to the communities the Shakers founded, their beliefs, and their simple ways of living.

Jessamine Brady, the main character, had lived with the Shakers since she was ten years old, and now at age 19, she is wanting to see a bit more of the world beyond the confines of Harmony Hill. Gabhart portrays Jessamine as a typical teenaged girl who just wants to explore a bit and see how the world is outside of her protected community.

This is a gentle, evenly paced novel that is an absolute pleasure to read, and is as inspiring as it is informational. "The Gifted" can be read as a stand alone novel - but I highly recommend the previous four novels as well - they are wonderful reading!
