About The Book:
How long can two people stand on the brink of love without plunging in headfirst?
In the autumn of 1941, rumors of war whisper through Rosey Corner. The town practically vibrates with apprehension, as if it is holding its breath. But for Kate Merritt, it seems life is letting out a prolonged sigh. As Kate watches her sister marry the man Kate has loved since she was fifteen, her heart is silently breaking. And even the attentions of Jay Tanner, the handsome best man, can't draw her interest.
Ann Gabhart takes her readers back to check in with the Merritt family in this sequel to her novel, "Angel Sister." It was fun catching up with Lorena Birdsong, the orphan girl adopted by the Merritt's and the rest of the residents of Rosey Corners.
This story centers around Kate Merritt, the middle sister - the one Lorena calls her "angel sister." Love comes calling in the form of Jay Tanner, and Kate grapples with the decision of whether to give in to her feelings for the handsome drifter or stand firm in her convictions. Will love win out? You just have to read along to find out!
Gabhart captures the World War II era in this novel realistically, with all the sacrifice and anxiousness that was felt during this time. Her characters are also lovingly familiar and feel like members of the family you haven't seen in a while. I hope that Gabhart continues the updates on the Merritts and Lorena - I'd like to see how the little feisty gal grows up!
