Weekend Cooking and Saturday Snapshot - Southern Plate Classics by Christy Jordan and Yes, more Alabama!

When we were out in Alabama for vacation recently, I spied a cooking magazine by one of my favorite cookbook authors, Christy Jordan, so naturally I had to scoop it up!

"Southern Plate Classics" is a gorgeous magazine put out by the Hoffman Media group and features some of Christy's easiest and most luscious recipes.  Although this is technically a "magazine," the photographs of the food are just dazzling and the good quality paper insures that this is a publication that will stand up to some use!  I've already got sticky-note galore stuck through my copy of dishes I want to try!

Sunday Dinner - makes you want to pull your chair right up, doesn't it?

If you like good home-cooking and recipes that actually use things that you have in your pantry or on your shelves, this is the publication for you!  (I love that Christy will say in her ingredients list - "I got this ingredient at Walmart!")

Check out Christy's fun website/blog at www.southernplate.com for more yummy recipes.  You can also keep up with her progress since she had a horrific riding accident this summer which left her with a broken ankle and a broken knee, bless her heart! (And I mean that in the good way!)

Now, for Saturday Snapshot -

Yes, here is the end of my Alabama pics, but I wanted to share just a couple more -

My husband and I laughingly say that we go to Alabama for the food - but seriously, there is some great eating to be had in this great state!  (We go to see our loved ones too!)

The Birmingham Farmer's Market is one of our favorite "Foodie" places to go!  This sign has been there since the 1950s, at least!

Look at these beautiful peppers and cucumbers!!

My buddy Seale Ballenger has been crowing about the cookies from Savage's Bakery in Homewood, Alabama for as long as I've known him.  I finally got to check out the bakery and oh my goodness, he was right!!!

How do you choose from all these goodies!  I just made it simple and got one of everything!

Have a great weekend, ya'll!  Go have something good to eat!!

Farmer's Markets and bakeries are two of my favorite places. I can't pass them by because I never know what wonderful goodies I'll find unless I stop in.

The magazine sounds great! I have a few southern cookbooks (used to live in Virginia) but I'm not familiar with this cook or magazine.
