Book Reviews - The Quilts of Love series - The Christmas Quilt by Vanetta Chapman and Aloha Rose by Lisa Carter

The "Quilts of Love" series is an amazing group of book that feature quilting and romance at the heart of each story. The two newest books in the series are "The Christmas Quilt" by Vannetta Chapman and "Aloha Rose" by Lisa Carter.

About The Book:

Annie's life is deliciously full as the Christmas season approaches. She helps her husband, Samuel, attend to the community's minor medical needs. She occasionally assists Belinda, the local midwife, and most days, she finds herself delivering the buggy to her brother Adam.

Annie’s sister-in-law Leah is due to deliver their first child before Christmas morning, and Annie is determined to finish a crib quilt before the boppli arrives. With six weeks to go, she should have no problem . . . but God may have a different plan. Leah is rushed to the English hospital when the infant arrives early, and Annie discovers the Christmas quilt may hold a far greater significance than she ever imagined.

My Thoughts:

I really enjoyed this story of two Amish ladies, sisters-in-law, who are both expecting their first babies, and their close relationship.  Author Vannetta Chapman does a wonderful job of telling this tale, which is sewn together with a special baby quilt that the girls hope to finish in time for Christmas and in time to welcome a new babe to the family.

Chapman also includes the husbands, the brothers-in-law, in this story as well, as she describes the two men's different views of family and marriage.  One is older and calmer, the other is young and a little fearful of what's to come, but between the two they balance each other out!

Fans of Amish holiday tales will really get a kick out of this novel!  (And if you want to know a little more about the first couple, Annie and Samuel, check out Chapman's book, "A Simple Amish Christmas," for their love story!)

About The Author:

Vannetta Chapman has published over one hundred articles in Christian family magazines. She discovered her love for the Amish while researching her grandfather’s birthplace in Albion, Pennsylvania. Vannetta is a multi-award winning member of
Romance Writers of America and holds a B.A. and M.A. in English. She currently teaches in the Texas hill country, where she lives with her husband in the city of
Austin. Visit her on the web at www.VannettaChapman.com.

About The Book:

When Laney Carrigan sets out to find her birth family, her only clue is the
Hawaiian quilt—a red rose snowflake appliqu├ęd on a white background—in which she was found wrapped as an infant. Centering her search on the Big Island and battling fears of rejection, Laney begins a painstaking journey toward her true heritage.

Kai Barnes, however, is determined to protect the people he’s come to regard as family. He thinks Laney is nothing more than a gold digger and blocks every move she makes toward her Hawaiian family.

As their conflict escalates, it puts at risk the one thing that Kai and Laney both want most—a family.

My Thoughts:

Hawaiian quilting is unique and beautiful, and this story, "Aloha Rose," is just as unique and beautiful!

Author Lisa Carter brings the story of a young woman looking for her birth family, and in doing so discovers not only her family, but a culture that she comes to respect, and a romance that she wasn't expecting.  I loved Carter's characters in this story and the fast-moving story kept me mesmerized to the very end.

This is a very enjoyable story that fans of inspirational romance and quilting fans will enjoy!
