A Gala Event: An Orchard Mystery by Sheila Connolly - Book Review

About The Book:

Wedding bells are ringing for Meg and Seth in the latest Orchard Mystery from the New York Times bestselling author of Picked to Die.

The fall harvest may be just about over, but orchard owner Meg Corey is busier than ever planning her wedding to Seth Chapin. Who knew picking apples would be less work than picking out rings and a dress? And even though the happy couple has invited most of Granford, Massachusetts, to the ceremony, they might have to make room for one more guest…

Ex-con Aaron Eastman has unexpectedly reappeared in his hometown, searching for answers to the tragic fire in his family’s past that put him behind bars twenty-five years ago. Moved by his sincerity, Meg vows to do everything she can to help him solve the cold case. As she cobbles together the clues, it becomes increasingly clear that Aaron may have been considered the bad seed of the family, but someone else was one bad apple…

My Thoughts:

When you have a series that runs long, as does Sheila Connolly's Orchard Mystery series, you might be running out of ideas of murders to write about - well, you might! However, in her 9th book, "A Gala Event," Connolly gives her series a twist in that the murder that is the subject of this book was actually committed 25 years ago!  I loved this unique take!

In addition to an intriguing mystery to solve, Connolly treats her readers to a charming wedding between the lead characters, Meg and Seth!  She also catches her fans up on all the lives of the various secondary characters and the action that takes place in Granford.

I really enjoy this series. I loved the fact that it was released during the fall season, as that is the time of year the story is set in! (that doesn't happen too often in books!)Connolly's style of writing is fast-paced and keeps your attention to the very satisfying ending.  Her cast of characters are witty and smart, and the setting is a place that anyone would love to visit - that is, when murders aren't taking place!  I highly recommend this series for cozy mystery fans!
