Bella's Christmas Bake-Off by Sue Watson - Book Review
About The Book:
Two best friends. One big lie. The best bake off EVER.
Bella Bradley is the queen of television baking - a national treasure. Her Christmas specials have been topping the ratings for years and her marriage to Peter 'Silver Fox' Bradley is the stuff of Hello magazine specials.
But this year things are going to be different. For Amy Lane, Bella's best friend from school, life hasn't held quite the same sparkle. And when Amy's husband walks out three weeks from Christmas, it seems their lives are further apart than ever. Amy has watched Bella's rise to fame fondly, despite the fact Bella was always a terrible cook. But when she realises that Bella's latest Christmas book is made up entirely of Amy's mother's recipes, the gloves are off... After winning a competition to appear on Bella's TV show, Amy is going to make sure that for Bella and her viewers, this will definitely be a Christmas to remember...
A hilarious, heart-breaking and feel good read about best friends, baking and the magic of Christmas.
Are you having trouble getting into the holiday spirit this year? Well, author Sue Watson has the remedy for you! Find a nice quiet chair, pour yourself a hot cup of lovely tea and indulge yourself in Sue's latest, wonderfully warm and truly hilarious Christmas book, "Bella's Christmas Bake-Off."
I happened across this book on Netgalley (thank you Netgalley and Bookouture) and was pulled in by the delightful and colorful cover! But I became a big fan of author Sue Watson as I begin to read this charming and funny Christmas tale. I absolutely loved the story of two friends who had lost each other and eventually find their way back to that friendship that meant so much. Sue's skillful storytelling is just a joy to read, and what Christmas book would be complete without luscious sounding food! And the author graciously includes a recipe for the delicious sounding brownies that play a prominent role in the story.
If you are looking for a sweet and fun story to lift your holiday spirits, I highly, highly recommend "Bella's Christmas Bake-off." While you're at it, check out Sue's other books - she's got a ton of great reading for women's fiction fans!
About The Author:
Sue Watson was a TV Producer with the BBC who combined motherhood and family life with a busy career. However, one day it dawned on Sue that Cosmo magazine may have been telling porkies about 'having it all,' and she realised her life had become a slightly crazed juggling act. So after much comfort eating, soul searching and reality TV watching, she sold her car, cancelled the holiday, bought a flamingo pink laptop and took the plunge as a writer.
The result was Sue's first novel, 'Fat Girls and Fairy Cakes,' a story about Stella Weston, whose life is a constant struggle with the weighing scales and being a working mum, wife and daughter.
The author researched intensely, baking and tasting and baking and ... tasting and... created the fabulous recipe collection of easy but impressive cakes at the back of the book. Sue also gained an equally impressive extra ten pounds on her hips, which to this day she carries with her.
Originally from Manchester, Sue now lives with her husband and teenage daughter in Worcestershire where she is currently writing her third book. When she's not toiling over her latest novel, Sue can be found enjoying large bags of chicken crisps, large tubs of Caramel Chew Chew ice cream and 'The Biggest Loser USA' on series link.
