Dead To The Last Drop: A Coffeehouse Mystery by Cleo Coyle - Book Review

Happy Publication Day to cozy mystery author Cleo Coyle!!

The latest in her "Coffeehouse Mystery" series comes out today and it's a doozy!

About The Book:

From the New York Times bestselling author of Once Upon a Grind comes an exciting new installment in the "highly satisfying"* Coffeehouse Mystery series.

After the White House asks coffeehouse manager and master roaster Clare Cosi to consult on the coffee service for a Rose Garden Wedding, she discovers a historic pot was used as a CIA "dead drop" decades before. Now long-simmering secrets boil over, scalding Clare and the people around her...

Clare's visit to the nation's capital is off to a graceful start. Her octogenarian employer lands her a housesitting job in a charming Georgetown mansion, and she’s invited to work with a respected curator on the Smithsonian’s culinary salute to coffee in America.

Unfortunately, Clare's new Village Blend DC is struggling to earn a profit, until its second floor Jazz Space attracts a high-profile fan—the college-age daughter of the U.S. President. Clare's stock rises as the First Lady befriends her, but she soon learns a stark lesson: Washington can be murder.

First a stylish State Department employee suspiciously collapses in her coffeehouse. Then the President's daughter goes missing. Is she a runaway bride or is something more sinister in play? After another deadly twist, Clare is on the run with her NYPD detective boyfriend. Branded an enemy of the state, she must piece together clues and uncover the truth before her life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness come to a bitter end.

My Thoughts:

If you like an adrenaline-rushing, spell-binding mystery filled with fascinating characters and as a special addition, twenty-five delicious recipes, then "Dead To The Last Drop" is just the book for you!

The fifteenth book in the best-selling Coffeehouse Mystery series, "Dead To The Last Drop" finds heroine/amateur sleuth Clare Cosi in the different setting of Washington, D.C. and fully immersed in the political intrigue that the capital city is known for!  As she and her honey, Detective Mike Quinn set out to solve the latest who-dun-it that Clare has found herself in, the couple learn that not only is Clare in danger, but the First Daughter as well.  And the race is on to see how the whirlwind mystery is solved.

I really enjoyed this change-of-pace setting for the Coffeehouse Mysteries. And I loved how author Cleo Coyle moves the story from the present to the past and back, and gives several viewpoints as well.  Fans of the series will Love this installment, and it would be a great start for new readers as well.

And, oh those recipes!  Don't read this book if you are hungry!!  Because you will be raiding the kitchen at some point during the tale, only to return to the action-packed story!! I also loved the historical information on the Presidents and their coffee preferences!

Don't this tempt you???  The Recipe is at www.coffeehousemystery.com

I highly recommend anything written by the adorable husband/wife team of Alice and Marc who write as Cleo Coyle.  Cozy mystery fans will adore this book, and what a great gift it would make to mystery fans as well!
